Charlie Lindh, the sole Swedish competitor at the New Zealand Open presented by Millbrook Resort, delivered what might be his strongest performance yet on the Asian Tour by tying for sixth place today.
He wrapped up with an impressive four-under-par 67 on the Composite course at Millbrook Resort, ending at 14 under overall—eight shots back from New Zealand's winner, Daniel Hillier.
The skilled player shared third last year at the Taiwan Glass Taifong Open, but this finish in one of golf's most historic and respected national opens stands out as a career highlight.
"Maybe it is—I'm not sure," he remarked. "I'm in solid form right now and plan to stay that way through the season, especially since I'm finally injury-free after waiting so long for this."
He narrowly missed an eagle putt on the par-five 17th, which could have capped off an even better week, before settling for a birdie four.
"Conditions were challenging today, but it was a blast," he added. "I've had an amazing crowd cheering me on all week, thanks to bringing along a fantastic caddie."
Lindh has competed on the Asian Tour for two years since earning his spot with a sixth-place finish at Qualifying School. He secured his card again, placing 44th on the Order of Merit—just like the previous year.
"I've dedicated the effort, and since winter, I've been training exactly how I want," he explained. "We couldn't do that over the past two years."
The Swede hit out of bounds twice in the first two rounds and admitted he'd love a redo on those shots.
The 28-year-old credits much of his recent success to a grip adjustment that's working so well, he's keeping the details under wraps.
He placed tied for 15th in the season's first event, the Philippine Golf Championship, earlier this month. He's confirmed for the upcoming International Series Japan but noted for now: "Just need to get home safely—three flights tomorrow, and I'm dreading them."
